Chico NorCal Roller Girls down defensive-minded Derby Dames

Employing their strongest defensive strategies, the Tahoe Derby Dames met up against the Chico NorCal Roller Girls for a fourth time Saturday. With Tahoe boasting one of its strongest lineups, and Chico down a few key players, it promised to be an action-packed bout.

The Tahoe Derby Dames started the bout with its star lineup, including team captain Hollie “Jinn Beam” Straubinger, Christina “GG Allen” Bettera, Christine “Fiona Fearless” Mendoza, Julie “Piratella” Kohn and jammer Katie “Skrappie” Maltester.

The consistent defensive tactics by Tahoe kept Chico’s lead to under 20 points by the end of the first half. Historically, Chico’s leads had been much greater in past bouts.

Chico rebounded in the second half, with strong blocking and strategic trapping of Tahoe’s jammer. With more Tahoe skaters in the box, it gave Chico the opportunity to move ahead in the scoring for a 117-82 victory.

The Tahoe Derby Dames have one more home bout on Sept. 18, as they face off against the Sonora Mountain Derby Girls. They then play Reno’s Battle Born Derby Demons in Reno on Sept. 25.
