Children’s book teaches about cancer

Tribune News Service

Carson Valley resident Colleen Nestroyl recently published her seventh children’s book, “Great Days of Fun.”

The book is geared toward children with cancer, and focuses on helping them understand what cancer is.

“There’s no books out there for little children with cancer,” Nestroyl said. “I want them to understand that they can have a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Squirrelly Squirrel, the main character, is diagnosed with bone cancer and undergoes laser treatments and losing his hair. His community of Lampe Park helps him understand what is happening to him and stays by his side through treatments and recovery.

“He has a happy ending and has a party with his family at Lampe Park,” Nestroyl said.

The 12-page book includes a “Did you know” page that contains information about cancer as well as websites for local resources.

Nestroyl has written and illustrated six other children’s books and is planning to write a book on epilepsy next.

“Great Days of Fun” is available at Lulu.com, Barnes and Noble.com, Amazon.com and on I-Pads and e-books.
