Children’s theatre to host auditions

Tahoe Arts Project will host auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “Blackbeard the Pirate” Monday at the South Tahoe Middle School Multi-Purpose Room.

Among the roles to be cast are Blackbeard and his crew of bearded pirates, sailors of the high seas, cranky crabs and crocodiles, magical mermaids and seaweed creatures, parrots and beach bums. Students, entering first grade through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. Those auditioning must be at least 5 years old and have completed Kindergarten to participate. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities. Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup.

Auditions will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Those auditioning should arrive at 10 a.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the auditions. Auditions are free and, if cast, there is a $50 per child fee to participate, according to a TAP press release. A limited number of scholarships are available.

The MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals each day from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“Blackbeard the Pirate” will be presented July 12 at Lake Tahoe Community College Duke Theater at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Admission costs $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
