Christmas tree recycling program available

Provided to the Tribune

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Douglas County Parks and Recreation is again offering a Christmas tree recycling program in cooperation with Douglas Disposal and South Tahoe Refuse. Both Douglas Disposal and South Tahoe Refuse will provide curbside pickup of trees.

Christmas trees can be recycled in two ways. People can put the tree next to the trash can on a normal pick up day Jan. 3-7. People without trash pickup may put their trees out with neighbors who do.

Trees can also be dropped off at one of the following collection sites: Lampe Park, Johnson Lane Park, Topaz Ranch Estates Park, Ranchos Aspen Park, the Fairgrounds or Zephyr Cove Park.

To protect workers and equipment, please remove tinsel, lights, nails, and stands from the tree before dropping it off.

Flocked trees will not be accepted because they “gum up” the chippers.

Contact Douglas County Parks and Recreation for more information at 775-782-9835 or 775-782-9828.
