Provided to the Tribune
The Family Resource Center, along with local restaurants and donors, will conduct its first fund-raiser this year. After years of providing services and working for the Tahoe community, FRC hopes to bring in the community to celebrate these years of service.
The center has organized a Cinco de Mayo celebration that will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. May 3 at the Edgewood Tahoe. Tickets are just $20 each and are available for purchase at the Family Resource Center (530) 542-0740, Placer County Title (530) 542-1811 or the South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce (530) 542-5255.
For entertainment a 10-piece mariachi band will perform for two of the four hours. The band has been provided for by donations from the South Tahoe Association of Realtors and other donors. Jorge Orozo will present his specialty salsa dancing and a children’s dance troupe will present a Ballet Folklorico.
All the food will be provided by La Taberna, Los Mexicanos, Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant, Taco Taqueria and The Cantina. Soft drinks, beer, margaritas and wine will be available. A salsa taste-off is scheduled between the different restaurants in town to determine which restaurant serves the best salsa.
Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each or $20 for five for a chance to win a number of great prizes donated by local merchants. Among the prizes are e a one-week trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, ski and snowboard leases, hot tub and spa, free movie rentals, season ski passes, photo and video bag, wine and gift certificates to restaurants.
Proceeds will be used to support the many programs the Family Resource Center offers – all of which benefit children and families in the community. The center is funded by public agencies and grants. The demand for its services continues to grow, while the available funding is being reduced. By sharing in this night of celebration, participants will help ensure the Family Resource Center continues to be able to provide the services that make a difference for so many families in the community.
