Citizenship scholarship goes to Mariko Peshon

Mariko Peshon

Since 2004, the Lake Tahoe Democratic Club has funded the Daphne Forte Citizenship Scholarship as a tribute to an amazing woman. Not only did she care deeply about her many, many piano students, she was also passionate about her community, her country and her world.

Forte felt so strongly about her core values that she was prodded into action. In 2003, largely because of her, the local Democratic Club was reinvigorated with much-needed enthusiasm and drive. By awarding the Daphne Forte Citizenship Scholarship annually to a civic-minded graduating high school student, it is the intent of the club to keep her spirit alive and well in the youth of today.

This year’s recipient of the $500 scholarship is Mariko Peshon, who recently graduated from South Tahoe High School. Mari has exhibited a true sense of leadership as evidenced by her participation as the student representative on Lake Tahoe Unified’s Board of Education for the past two years.

She has been a leader in SMILE, Students Making It A Little Easier, and is well respected among her peers. Mari is truly deserving of this scholarship.
