City appoints development services director

Staff reports

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Hilary Hodges will serve as the as director of the newly formed Development Services Department.

Hodges “has demonstrated the intellectual, management and leadership capacity to be an outstanding director,” City Manager Tony O’Rourke said.

In 1999, Ms. Hodges earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara and began her planning career shortly thereafter for the City of Arcata. In 2002, she became a City Planner for the City of San Luis Obispo where she also attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to earn a masters degree in Regional Planning. After leaving the City of San Luis Obispo, she worked for Rincon Consultants as an environmental planner before joining the City of South Lake Tahoe in 2005.

Hodges has been with South Lake Tahoe’s planning department for six years reviewing proposed housing and commercial plans, resolving city code issues, developing community plans and handling a variety of community visioning and public workshops. Hodges has overseen the updating of the City’s General Plan integrating sustainability concepts, green building, environmental benefits, regional thresholds and city needs into the General Plan. Hodges supervised the merge and transition of the planning, building, public works, engineering, redevelopment and housing divisions into one new Development Services Department following a recent reorganization of the city.
