City confirms T.J. Maxx coming to the "Y"

Staff Report

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The City of South Lake Tahoe announced Thursday that the owners of the Garfinkle property located at the northeast corner of the “Y” have signed a permit application to bring T.J. Maxx into the location as their new tenant.

T.J. Maxx advertises itself as “real designers, real savings, really,” and offers a wide range of merchandise.

The owners have indicated they expect a Spring 2012 grand opening, according to a statement from the city.

“This is exciting news for the City and community, an excellent way to get New Year 2012 off to a great start breathing new life into that corner of the community,” said Mayor Claire Fortier in the statement.

Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis, who has been working with the owners to help facilitate a smooth process, said “This is an excellent example of government at its best, simplifying the process to create 60 to 80 new jobs for our community.”

The statement thanked Tahoe Regional Planning Agency staff for working collaboratively with the City and the property owners to streamline the permitting process.

City Assistant Planner Judy Finn and staff at the Development Services Department also devoted many hours to the project, demonstrating the best in customer service, according to the statement.
