City goes for grant
The South Lake Tahoe City Council gave the go-ahead Tuesday for staff to apply for Community Development Block Grant funds earmarked for a program designed to cultivate local entrepreneurs.
The city will apply for $300,000 to fund efforts for the program that will cover remedial instruction like how to develop a business plan. It will be run by Jon Gregory, chief executive officer of Golden Capital Network.
Councilman Hal Cole opposed the measure in a 4-to-1 vote because he’d rather see the money go to financial incentives.
The city expects to find out if the state approves the grant request by mid December. The money should come in 2004.
