SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The City of South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, announced the return of the 3rd grade swim program.  For the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic, all 264 third-grade students in the district will receive free swim lessons as part of their school curriculum.

Starting March 3, over an 11-week period, students will participate in structured swim lessons at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation and Aquatics Complex during school hours. The program will be led by a dedicated team of four swim instructors and a group coordinator, ensuring a safe and effective learning experience for all participants.

“We are thrilled to bring back this essential program that equips children with life-saving water safety skills,” said Kelley Edwards, Recreation Manager for the City of South Lake Tahoe. “Living in a lake community, it is crucial that our youth have access to swim instruction, and this partnership with the school district makes that possible.”

The Learn to Swim program’s daily lessons will temporarily impact some regularly scheduled swim programs at the Recreation and Aquatics Center. Community members are encouraged to check the modified pool schedule, available on the city’s website, for updated swim times.
