City offering free lead paint mitigation

Staff report

If your home was built before 1978, lead paint may still be on the walls, doors, windows and sills, which can lead to learning disabilities and violent behaviors in children.

Free help is available through the city of South Lake Tahoe, which secured a $1.5 million dollar grant to reduce lead hazards in homes where children live or regularly visit. The program is provided at no cost to homeowners. Funding is limited. The city’s grant will cover the costs to help up to 100 homes.
