The city of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a series of music classes for tots and preschool-age children at the Recreation Complex, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The purpose of these classes is to provide children with an opportunity to discover the language of music, and create an environment where they can explore the wonder and joy of music as an art form. The class will focus on sound, pitch rhythm, and mood (characteristics). These characteristics will be introduced through song, vocal play, movement, music literature/story time, finger play and creative self-expression with an emphasis on multicultural music and instrument exploration.

These experiences help children learn more about how music is created and interpreted. Carolyn Hemmen Dolan, who is ECE certified and has been performing in the Lake Tahoe area for 20 years as a lead vocalist and harmonica player, will teach these classes.

A Mommy & Me Toddler class for children 18 to 36 months of age will take place from 10:30 to 11 a.m. each Monday March 6 through April 13. The cost is $40 for the five-week session.

The class for preschool children ages 3 to 6 is scheduled from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. each Monday March 6 through April 3. The cost is $45 per five-week session.

For more information call the city of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation at (530) 542-6056 or stop in and register at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.
