City offers youth basketball league

Provided to the Tribune

The city of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department is now taking sign-ups for its youth basketball league.

This year’s program will focus on introducing boys and girls to the importance of FUNdametals as a way of building local middle and high school basketball programs for the future. The program will operate on Saturdays starting Feb. 27 and run for five weeks. Each Saturday session will involve a short intensive clinic run by current South Tahoe High School coaches and players that will engage each participant. The clinic will be followed by competitive games.

This year’s program will not have formal teams. Teams will be formed each Saturday after the clinic for the games. Since teams will not be formed, there will be no practices during the week.

The following divisions will be offered, separating boys and girls whenever possible: kindergarten through second grade, third and fourth grades, fifth and sixth grades and seventh and eighth grades.

Registration cost is $35 and includes a reversible mesh jersey and basketball for each participant. Sign up at the Recreation Complex, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. Space is limited.
