City to discuss joint government center

Susan Wood

The South Lake Tahoe City Council will hear a number of diverse presentations when it meets Tuesday including an afternoon session on a joint government center with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

The proposed center to be discussed at 1:30 p.m. would house offices and facilities for the city, school district and El Dorado County on school property.

The city will also get an update on the Highway 50 curb-and-gutter project, a $45 million job planned on the major thoroughfare corridor that includes sidewalks, bike lanes and landscaping.

An environmental consultant will also provide a status report on a restoration project on the Upper Truckee River that runs adjacent to the Lake Tahoe Airport. The meeting will begin there at 9 a.m. in council chambers.

Presentations on new items consist of public safety concerns, ranging from the perceived encroaching West Nile virus and the issues surrounding residency of high-risk sex offenders.
