Clinton and Gore to make one public appearance

Patrick McCartney

While attendance at the two-day Lake Tahoe Presidential Forum will be limited to a select number of public officials, agency employees and researchers, the public will have one opportunity to meet the president and vice president while they are here.

At 2:30 p.m. Saturday, President Clinton will address the people of Lake Tahoe at the Village Green in Incline Village, where he will depart from Lake Tahoe on Marine One, the presidential helicopter. The helicopter will shuttle him to Reno Tahoe International Airport, where he will board Air Force One for a flight to Southern California.

The president and vice president are scheduled to greet the public for a total of 50 minutes.

Those interested in attending are asked to enter the Village Green, a grassy park, from its Lakeshore Boulevard entrance, between Country Club Drive and Village Drive. The site is a short walk west from the Hyatt Regency, where the Lake Tahoe Presidential Forum is to be held.

The gate will open at 1 p.m., and the public is asked to pack light to minimize delays from security clearances.

But arriving and parking at the location of the president’s visit will be complicated by street and facility closures associated with the presidential forum. Scheduled to be closed all day are Incline Way, Incline Village Recreation Center, the Village Green parking lot and the Incline Tennis Complex parking lot.
