Cloudy and cool with more showers and afternoon thunderstorms today and Tuesday
May 26, 2008
A large low pressure complex over the western U.S. will keep a moist and unstable air mass over the Lake Tahoe area for the next few days.
While the cold air and jet stream support for precipitation will be weakening, daytime heating will trigger showers and a few afternoon thunderstorms today and Tuesday.
Highs today are expected to reach the lower to mid 50s under mostly cloudy skies. Winds are forecast to be light and variable today and Tuesday except for strong gusts to 40 mph near any showers or thunderstorms. Lows tonight are projected to drop into the lower to mid 30s around the lake under partly cloudy skies.
A little more sunshine on Tuesday will help temperatures rise into the mid to upper 50s at lake level.
Continued weakening of the low pressure complex this week will allow a gradual warming and drying trend for the remainder of the week. Still with lingering moisture and instability more sunshine and heating could trigger an isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorm.
