Coast Guard Auxiliary Dinner

Staff Reports

The U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary will gather for dinner and a meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at Harveys Casino & Resort Garden Buffet Room.

Guest speakers will be Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Gerber, daughter and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sharp of Zephyr Cove. The Gerbers, who spent the month of October 2000 in Nepal, will present a video of their trip that contains spectacular views of Mt. Everest and the surrounding mountains. They spent three weeks of their trip treking 150 miles, camping in the high Himalayas and climbing 18,500 feet to the height of the Mt. Everest base camp.

Nepal is an intriguing small nation nestled between India and Tibet in an area of only 54,300-square-miles. It was the preparation and jumping off place for the likes of Sir Edmond Hiliary in his quest to conquer Mt. Everest.

To make a reservation and for more information call Thurston Ott, flotilla commander, at (530) 544-2221.
