Coast Guard offers free watercraft safety checks

Provided to the Tribune

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering free vessel safety checks to all owners of recreational watercraft (power, sail, paddle) by trained, qualified vessel safety examiners. The Lake Tahoe Coast Guard urges all vessel owners to have their vessel checked for safety.

Safety checks can help reduce boating accidents, injuries and costly breakdowns by increasing the awareness of the use of marine safety equipment as required by federal, state and local safety laws. A decal will be awarded to those who are in compliance with all safety requirements, and its display will assure the authorities that your vessel has met all of the essential standards of boating safety. Lets make this the safest year yet on Lake Tahoe by boating “Smart from the Start” with a free vessel safety check. For additional information and to schedule an appointment for a safety check on your boat call Victor Beelik at (775) 588-1385 or Bob Oden at (530) 544-3019.
