Cold Sweat wakes up in Tahoe

Tim Parsons, Lake Tahoe Action

Cold Sweat is returning to South Shore for three shows at McP's Pub Tahoe.

After all these years, the groove continues.

Cold Sweat, which formed at Tahoe in 1992, plays Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22-23 and Saturday, Aug. 30, at McP’s Irish Pub.

Singer-guitarist Felix Odion is the funk band’s only remaining original player.

“We’re in one of those periods of time when have four members who really click,” Odion said. “We enjoy the same music and like playing with each other without any egos and drama. We know it won’t last forever, but I’m really enjoying it right now.”

Considering the amount of driving they need to do, the band members must enjoy it. Two live in Gardnerville, one in Reno, and bass player Carl Kline resides in Pollock Pines.

Cold Sweat is getting casino work, playing often at the Fandango in Carson City and Sharkey’s in Gardnerville. Odion estimates that the band will play 200 shows this year.

The other players are David Macias on saxophone and drummer Bill Heath.

“We’d rather play a good soul cover than an original with no soul at all,” Odion said. “The guys in the band really live for the music. If it ain’t groovin’, we ain’t movin’. “

Odion said his favorite musicians are Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, James Brown, the Temptations and Stevie Wonder.

McP’s, 4093 Lake Tahoe Blvd., which offers live music every night of the week, doesn’t charge a cover.
