College invites potential board candidates to orientation today

An orientation for prospective board members for the Lake Tahoe Community College District Board of Trustees will be conducted today at 6 p.m. in room A106 at the college.

Anyone interested in applying for the provisional appointment is encouraged to attend this orientation. After the death of longtime board member Pat Amundson on July 1, the board voted to make a provisional appointment to the board to run the length of Amundson’s term that ends Dec. 2, 2005. To remain on the board, the appointee must run for office in the November 2005 general election.

The orientation will be conducted by board member Roberta Mason and Diane Woodruff, executive director of the Community College League of California, a statewide association representing trustees and administrators. Applicants can hear about the duties, responsibilities and time commitment required of community college trustees. There will be an opportunity to ask specific questions related to the Lake Tahoe Community College District.

Application forms are now available in the Superintendent/President’s office located in the college at One College Drive. Completed applications must be received in the Superintendent/President’s office by 4 p.m. Thursday. Finalists will be contacted by Friday to schedule personal interviews with the Board of Trustees to be held Monday.

Interested candidates are invited to contact Guy Lease, superintendent/president of Lake Tahoe Community College, for additional information by calling (530) 541-4660, Ext. 210.
