Comedy of global proportions this weekend at historic site

Provided to Lake Tahoe Action

Theater R.A.B. returns to the Valhalla Boathouse Theatre for the world premiere of its original theatrical performance, “The Tip of the Iceberg: A Globally Warm Comedy.”

The year is 2048. The very last glacier on earth is surrounded by tourists, entrepreneurs, refugee polar bears … and two mutually antagonistic environmentalists: the nanotechnologist Steve and the spiritual activist Evelyn. Suddenly the glacier “calves” and the two well-meaning souls find themselves trapped on an iceberg in the middle of the ocean. As the iceberg melts, the two are carried into strange regions, meet even stranger creatures … and seek to overcome their own follies.

What will the next decades bring? Will we be standing under water, or plagued with drought – or both? Can the ordinary western citizen manage to live an ordinary life without contributing to the final catastrophe? Is it wise to invest in Antarctic real estate?

These and other questions are posed by the new production of Theater R.A.B. Ð Random Acts of Beauty – a theatre company based in Freiburg, Germany. Franziska Braegger and Len Shirts, the founding members of the mask and movement ensemble, are bringing “Tip of the Iceberg” to California for the first time. Together with director Ed Holmes (San Francisco Mime Troupe, St. Stupid’s Day Parade), the mask and movement theatre production is an entertaining contribution to the desperately needed paradigm change in society.
