Comic Brian Wetzel tackles depression, addiction at LTCC’s Duke Theater
October 2, 2008
A comedian is taking a humorous look at a serious subject this weekend at Lake Tahoe Community College.
Since his September 2004 debut, Brian Wetzel has presented his show, “Side by Side ” a Journey With Depression” to packed houses from Stanford University to the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center to the Napa State Mental Hospital. Wetzel will speak at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the Duke Theater at Lake Tahoe Community College. The show is free and open to everyone.
“Brian’s show candidly transports you to the intimate recesses of his mind amid his turbulent struggles with clinical depression,” wrote Elena Alioto of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. “He will bring you laughter, grief, compassion and hope while touching the depths of your very soul. After seeing Brian’s show, you will never think of mental illness in the same way again.”
Wetzel was a professional standup comedian who struggled with clinical depression and addiction throughout his career, a battle that eventually became the basis for his one-man show. For more information about Wetzel, visit http://www.frontporchspirit.com or http://www.wetzelproductions.com.
