Commission debate on Wednesday

Michael Schneider

Commission candidates Don Miner and Janet Murphy will debate Douglas County issues Wednesday night.

The Business Council of Douglas County will host the debate at the Genoa Lakes Golf Course between the two District 4 candidates.

Miner, the Republican incumbent, is the only commissioner battling to retain his seat this year. Steve Weissinger, Bernie Curtis and Kelly Kite each have two years left on their terms and Chairman Jacques Etchegoyhen is running unopposed.

Miner defeated Republican challengers Bob Pruett and Kirk Ledbetter in the primary election for the right to square off against Murphy, an independent.

The debate is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Riverbend Grill at the golf course. It will be taped and aired on the Douglas County public access channel.

The public is welcome to attend and, time allowing, will have the opportunity to ask the candidates questions.

Sandy Cable, business council executive director, said the candidates will be asked questions on redevelopment, taxes, infrastructure and general county issues.

For additional information, call the business council at (702) 782-6715.
