Commissioners pursue lawsuit

Michael Schneider

Douglas County Commissioners advised the county’s District Attorney Thursday to pursue legal recourse against a firm contracted to do consulting for the Uppaway water system.

The county alleges Milton Sharp, Consulting Engineer’s, Inc. was paid for consulting services but didn’t complete the work. Sharp also allegedly failed to pay a subcontractor, Kleinfelder, Inc., for services already rendered.

Citing the need to complete the study at Uppaway, the county will contract Kleinfelder to take over the project.

As part of the commission decision, the county will pay Kleinfelder at least $14,000 for services which were to be performed by Sharp.

The county will also pay Kleinfelder $20,000 in back pay which was to be paid by Sharp, although there is the possibility Sharp may be required to reimburse the county the back pay should the potential law suit be successful.

Sharp has no phone number listed with Nevada Bell. Repeated attempts to fax the business soliciting a response to the county action were unsuccessful.

Kleinfelder has 34 offices at various locations around the western United States.
