Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, BloodSource and Baskin-Robbins are continuing their tradition of offering a delicious way to beat the heat. People who visit a BloodSource location or mobile blood drive to donate blood through Aug. 31 will receive a coupon redeemable for a pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.

Although summer is typically vacation season, the need for blood never stops. And the long-standing relationship between these organizations has proven to be very effective in maintaining a safe and adequate blood supply for Northern and Central California during a usually slow donation period.

The South Lake Tahoe Community Blood Drive is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd. All donors will receive a coupon good for a pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.

To be a blood donor, one must be in generally good health, at least 17 years of age or 16 with parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit for donating blood. Prospective donors must bring a photo ID. For more information about donating blood call 1-866-82-BLOOD, visit the Web site at http://www.bloodsource.org or contact Pat Amundson, South Lake Tahoe Community Blood Drive coordinator, at (530) 544-4456.
