David Defanti has been selected as the assistant director of the El Dorado County Community Development Agency.

Defanti comes to El Dorado County from Sacramento County, where he has worked since 2004, most recently as a senior planner. In Sacramento, he was responsible for the general plan update and growth management strategy, housing element update, and large specific plan applications among other projects, a press release stated. He has also held various positions with the local government commission.

“Dave’s primary mission is to coordinate the long term planning functions of our three Community Development Agency divisions,” Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Kim Kerr stated in the release. “He recognizes that effective planning demands community engagement.”

The board of supervisors formed the Community Development Agency in 2012 by consolidating the Department of Transportation, Development Services Department, and Environmental Management Department. As assistant director, Defanti will help manage the day-to-day activities of the approximately 290 person organization.

Defanti was hired at Step 1 of the county salary schedule, earning $118,539 per year. His first day with the Community Development Agency was July 15.
