Computer Buddies offered by WNCC College for Kids

Parents and their young children can team up for a computer class at Western Nevada community College, Douglas this summer. Computer Buddies is a week-long class offered Monday through Friday, July 19 to July 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. It is geared for children ages 4 to 6 and their parents. It will meet in the computer lab at Minden Elementary School with Sherry Lugone as the teacher.

The class will emphasis computer projects that help parents and kids solve problems and create together. Students will use primary software such as “Kids Works Deluxe,” a story writing program that lets kids create little books; “Explorapedia World of Nature,” a multimedia encyclopedia that informs through animation and games; and “Micro Worlds Project Builder,” which uses a turtle to teach programming basics.

Students will end the week by making scrapbook pages using candid photos and computer artwork. This class will help parents and kids learn to actively use their home computer to create fun family projects.

The cost is $40. Pre-register by July 13 at WNCC Douglas, 1680 Bently Parkway South, Minden. This non-credit class is being offered through the WNCC Douglas Community Services Division.
