Condit’s adult children resign one day after Davis criticism

SACRAMENTO (AP) – Rep. Gary Condit’s two adult children resigned from Gov. Gray Davis’ office Tuesday, one day after the governor joined those criticizing their father in the case of missing intern Chandra Levy.

”I regret their decision to leave … I wish them all the best in their future endeavors,” Davis said in a prepared statement released Tuesday.

Chad Condit worked as a Central Valley liaison for Davis and Cadee Condit was Davis’ special assistant. Davis and the congressman have been longtime friends and political allies.

The congressman’s son criticized Davis Monday night during an appearance on CNN’s Larry King Live.

”There is no honor in kicking somebody when they are down,” Condit’s son said Monday.

Davis spoke publicly about the case for the first time Monday, saying he was ”disheartened that Congressman Condit did not speak out more quickly or more fully” in the interview with ABC’s Connie Chung.

Davis said he did not see the Chung interview, but had read a transcript and media reports about it.
