‘Conservation Block Party’ set Saturday at Montgomery Estates

A series of neighborhood get-togethers – called “Conservation Block Parties” – will be presented throughout the summer, with the first one taking place Saturday at Montgomery Estates.

The free parties are sponsored by the Nevada Fire Safe Council and other agencies.

Saturday’s Conservation Block Party will be at 2495 Del Norte St. at Montgomery Estates in South Lake Tahoe. It will last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Arrival is encouraged at 10 a.m. for the start of presentations, which will be followed by a free barbecue lunch.

The block parties are intended to educate homeowners about fire defensible space, Best Management Practices (BMPs), water conservation, urban lot management, native and adapted plants and invasive weeds. Agency representatives will be available at each block party with information on how to obtain funding for defensible-space projects, water-efficient landscapes and BMP materials.

For more information and for the dates and locations of additional block parties and conservation evenings, call (530) 543-FIRE (3473) or (877) LT-NVFSC (586-8372).
