Q: What’s the difference between the Pick By Round contest and the Pick Upfront contest?
A: For the Pick By Round contest, players pick the winner for each game up to 20 minutes before it is scheduled to start. If you don’t pick in time the computer will select the most-picked team for you. So, instead of predicting the entire tournament before it happens you get to pick the winner of each game as it goes along.
For the Pick Upfront contest, players pick who they think will win each game in the bracket before the tournament starts, just like a traditional tournament bracket.
Q: What’s the difference between local prizes and national prizes?
A: Local prizes are only available to players in the Tahoe Daily Tribune March Mayhem Men’s College Basketball Contest, hosted by the Tahoe Daily Tribune. National prizes are available to all players in the national UPickEm bracket contests, of which the Tahoe Daily Tribune March Mayhem Men’s College Basketball Contest is a part.
Q: The tournament hasn’t started yet. Can I register now?
A: Yes. You can register for both contests right now. That way you’ll be ready to make your picks when the NCAA tournament field is named on selection Sunday, March 15, 2009. Tournament games start on Thursday, March 19, and run through April 6, so be sure to log back in and make your picks before then.
