Contestant wins Rotary car sweepstakes

Provided to the Tribune

The South Lake Tahoe Rotary Club celebrated the final chapter in its Great Car Sweepstakes on May 3 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. This year it was lucky key No. 16 that opened the grand prize, a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The 25 finalists chose their keys at random and, one-by-one, tried their luck at opening the Jeep. The winning key belonged to finalist Dr. David Borges, who yielded the attempt to his wife, Dr. Karen Borges, and she selected the lucky key. She then drew from among the remaining 24 and Jim and Heather Rex, finalists No. 14, won the trip to Maui. Shehadi Motors will provide car-detailing service to the other 23 finalists.

The Rotary Club appreciates the event committee, club member Mark Shehadi and Shehadi Motors, and the community for supporting this effort, making it possible for the service club to support a broad range of activities in the community.

The Rotary Club sold a record of 1,357 tickets, raising more than $35,000 for the club’s 2006-07 project and scholarship budget.
