Cork & More celebrates 35th anniversary

Submitted to the Tribune

The Cork & More, Inc., designed to be a “Napa-style market in the heart of Lake Tahoe,” first opened its doors for business in November 1976 on Ski Run Blvd.

A ribbon cutting to commemorate The Cork & More’s 35th anniversay will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at the current location at 1032 Al Tahoe Blvd.

The store was 425 square feet focusing on wines, coffees and a small cheese selection.

As the business developed, tabletop gift items were added along with specialty foods. In 1980, The Cork & More opened a second store in Tahoe City. Both stores continued to grow and allowed The Cork & More in South Lake Tahoe to relocate to its current location in 1984, which is the former location of the main post office at Al Tahoe Blvd. Expansion of the prepared food section in 1992, lead to a successful catering, bakery and food service business.
