Corpse found at Fallen Leaf

El Dorado County Sheriff’s investigators were still on scene Monday night checking into the discovery of a corpse near Fallen Leaf Road.

The body was found and reported to law enforcement Monday afternoon.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Peshon said the gender of the person has not been determined, as of presstime.

“We’re investigating … a dead person,” said Peshon. “We have a decedent. It being an outdoor crime scene it’s going to take a while to work our way into it. It’s not like going into a house.”

The call came from dispatch about 3:45 p.m. The body was found in an area between Fallen Leaf Campground and Tahoe Mountain Road.

By 4:05 p.m. deputies had closed a large section of Fallen Leaf Road north of Tahoe Mountain Road calling it a “crime scene.”

The road into the area is clear, since the snow has already melted in the area. The road leads to private, mostly summer, cabins and Stanford Camp, operated by Stanford University, of Palo Alto.

“You can definitely drive back there,” he said.

As darkness fell, investigators brought in emergency lighting to aid in the investigation.

Although they are treating the area as if it were a crime scene, investigators said it was too soon to comment on whether this was a homicide, suicide or accidental death.
