Council holds off on formalizing offer to potential city manager

The South Lake Tahoe City Council voted Tuesday to delay the approval of the city manager contract until a minor detail is settled.

Mayor Tom Davis said valid questions were raised by Councilman Bill Crawford at Tuesday’s meeting on the contract offered to David Childs.

Davis said an ambiguity about personal time requested by Childs for July 15 through 30 needs to be clarified.

“We just need to clarify if that will be on his time or the city’s,” Davis said. “The contract doesn’t state that either way.”

The vote on the city manager’s contract has been continued to the next meeting.

Childs, who is working as city manager in Minnetonka, Minn., is expected to start work in South Lake Tahoe by June 5.

Other action taken at Tuesday’s council and redevelopment meetings:

n Approval of $15,000 housing redevelopment funds to support a housing project for people with disabilities.

n Award of design contract for Park Avenue snowmelt system.

n Approval of six-month contract for air traffic control services at the Lake Tahoe Airport.

n Approval of a memorandum of understanding between the city and the South Tahoe Women’s Center for a full-time police officer to serve in the domestic violence intervention program. A three-year grant will fund the position.
