The City Council recognized the naming of the natural peak located in the Lake Tahoe Basin as “Gold Star Peak” on Aug. 20 by providing proclamations to local Gold Star families.

“Gold Star Peak” is dedicated to the memory of Brandon Williams, Timothy Smith and Garrett Fant, who died in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and the War on Terrorism.

Mayor Tom Davis presented proclamations to Smith’s mother Patty Smith, Fant’s mother Julia Farrell, mother of Garret Fant, and Brad Williams, father of Brandon Williams.

A bronze memorial plaque commemorating Gold Star Peak will be unveiled Sept. 6 at Lakeview Commons near the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Lakeview Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which will include remarks from U.S. Rep. McClintock, Forest Supervisor Nancy Gibson and City of South Lake Tahoe Mayor Tom Davis.
