Council selects Cole as South Lake Tahoe mayor

Last night South Lake Tahoe City Council approved Hal Cole as Mayor of South Lake Tahoe, a post formerly held by Tom Davis.

“I take it as quite an honor and a privilege,” Cole said, upon being unanimously elected.

Cole is also chairman of the South Tahoe Redevelopment Agency.

“Our city is going through a renaissance we have not seen since the 50’s and 60’s,” Cole said. He stressed how difficult it is to get projects to move forward with such strict environmental regulations, regulations he said are essential to the health of the Lake Tahoe community.

He commended the city for its success in passing Measure S.

“There is no reason our kids should have to be waiting in line to play soccer and baseball,” he said.

Tom Davis, who is starting another term on city council, made some closing remarks.

Cole stressed the importance and dedication of his fellow council members and of city staff.

“We are all here for no other reason than we love this community and love this city,” he said.

“I think we are positioning this community to be competitive and something we can be proud of for years to come,” he said.

Councilwoman Brooke Laine will be the new mayor pro-tem, the position formerly held by Cole.
