Councilman to debate TRPA representative

South Lake Tahoe City Councilman Bruce Grego and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency spokeswoman Julie Regan are set to square off in a debate on Tuesday for local television station K-MTN TV.

Grego has been an outspoken critic of the planning agency and the debate is likely to center around all-things Lake Tahoe Basin, said station co-owner Michael McKinney.

“There’s a lot of issues that hit Lake Tahoe,” McKinney said. “By having both sides come to the table and dispute their side – that’s huge.”

Whether the debate will be aired depends on how constructive the dialogue turns out, McKinney said.

“I think it’s going to go over well,” McKinney said. “If it doesn’t, it might not air at all – if it’s not for the good of Tahoe.”

If the debate is productive, “I’m going to air it and air it a lot,” McKinney said.

The format for the debate is being worked out, McKinney said.
