Country star Toby Keith playing in Lake Tahoe celebrity golf tournament
The 30th installment of the American Century Championship is adding some country cred to its list of competitors.
Toby Keith is set to play in the annual golf tournament hosted at Edgewood Tahoe, according to a Facebook post by the tournament. Keith’s name also appears on the online roster for the competition.
Keith, one of the biggest names in country music, performed several times as part of the Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series in the mid-2000s. This time around, however, he’ll be exchanging his guitar for golf clubs.
Keith’s appearance in the annual golf tournament will come in the middle of a break from his “That’s Country Bro!” tour, which is stopping in Sparks, Nevada on June 15, according to his website.
The dates of the American Century Championship fall between tour stops in New York and Wisconsin.
He’ll join fellow country artists Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts as some of the only musicians selected to compete in the championship.
Other notable competitors include last year’s winner Tony Romo, former MLB pitcher John Smoltz, San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski, actor/entertainer Jack Wagner, former NHL All-Star Jeremy Roenick and former NFL player Mark Rypien.
Crowd favorites including Rob Riggle, Larry the Cable Guy and Ray Romano also are slated to return this year.
Tournament week takes place July 9 – 14, with competitive rounds scheduled for July 12-14. Tournament passes and day tickets are available here.
