County Assessor warns against deceptive mailers

Staff reports

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Some El Dorado county residents are receiving mailers offering to reduce property taxes for a fee. However, property owners can get the same tax relief without paying anyone a fee, according to county Assessor Karl Weiland.

Any property owner who receives a solicitation offering help with property taxes should contact the Assessor to make sure the service is not available for free.

Property owners who have questions about homeowner’s exemptions or who wish to request a review of their assessed values can call the Assessor’s Office. The main office is located at 360 Fair Lane in Placerville, CA. Office hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and the main phone number is 530-621-5719. The South Lake Tahoe Office is located at 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd, Suite 103, SLT CA 96150. Office Hours are also 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and the phone number is 530-573-3422. The Assessor’s website, www.

edcgov.us/assessor, has both information on a variety of property tax issues as well as an on-line application for decline in value review under Prop 8.
