County funds go to Labor Day events

Michael Schneider

Douglas County has allocated $90,000 to support planned Labor Day weekend celebrations. Commissioners asked staff to report what is being done with the county’s money.

Kevin Servatius, senior vice president and general manager of Harveys Resort Hotel/Casino, will appear at Thursday’s commission meeting at the Lakeside Inn to discuss what the Stateline casino core will do on the last big tourist weekend of the summer season.

According to Commissioner Steve Weissinger, who serves as commission liaison to the Tahoe-Douglas Visitor’s Authority, the casinos will have a food sampling fair in front of the gaming palaces.

He said the casinos will have samples of food from each of their restaurants available to those strolling in the state line area.

“We’re hoping it will get some people stirred up and let people know what they have,” Weissinger said.
