South Lake Tahoe firefighters quickly extinguish vehicle fire
Nobody was injured when a vehicle erupted into flames Tuesday in South Lake Tahoe.
The driver was traveling in the Tahoe Sierra neighborhood, formerly known as Sierra Tract, when smoke started pouring out of the vehicle, according to Karl Koeppen, on duty battalion chief with South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, although the vehicle — a red Pontiac Grand Am — was fully involved by the time responders arrived on the scene.
“The car is probably a total loss,” Koeppen said.
The driver was not injured and nothing else was damaged in the incident.
The cause is still under investigation, but there was nothing suspicious or out of the ordinary, according to Koeppen.
As far as any takeaways, Koeppen said vehicle fires can start for a number or reasons so it’s hard to point to any single piece of advice. However, it never hurts to carry an extinguisher in your vehicle, he stated.
