Fire on Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care property extinguished, cause under investigation

UPDATE, May 19 at 3 p.m.: All animals are safe following a fire on Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Inc.’s property. Crews have extinguished the fire and are conducting an investigation. LTWC reports South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to a fire on the property at around 1:00 p.m. Monday. The fire was outside of the center’s main perimeter fence.

The center says staff and volunteers had the animals ready for evacuation within 20 minutes, but fortunately did not have to relocate them, which can cause more stress on the animals.

ORIGINAL STORY on May 19 : SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Fire crews are currently working an incident near Pioneer Trail and Al Tahoe Blvd. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Lake Valley Fire District and the U.S. Forest Service have responded to the incident.

CAL FIRE is reporting the fire as 10 acres or less on its incident map.



Agencies are asking the public to please avoid the area while crews are working.
