’82 South Tahoe High graduate killed, roommate jailed

Tribune staff reports

A 1982 South Tahoe High School graduate died as a result of a reported stabbing incident in his home in Sparks on March 9, a Sparks Police Department (SPD) press release stated.

At about 3 a.m., the SPD received a 9-1-1 call from 11 Vista De Lago, where they found Mark Allen Smith suffered a single stab wound to the chest.

Smith was transported to the Renown Medical Center. At about 8:30 a.m. he was pronounced dead.

Investigators allege his roommate, Harold Cordova, 65, was responsible for the attack. Cordova was arrested on an open murder charge and booked at the Washoe County Jail.

It is unknown what occurred between the two that led to Smith’s death, the press release stated. The incident is under investigation.
