CARSON CITY, Nev. — Michael Candelario, a former owner of the Lake Tahoe Brewing Company, turned himself into the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning.

Detectives were searching for Candelario, 33, after he failed to appear for his court hearing earlier this month, prompting the court to issue two felony warrants for his arrest.

The former businessman — who had plans to open a branch of the brewery in downtown Truckee in the Flying A building — was originally arrested in February in Carson City.

A warrant had been issued following an investigation that showed Candelario advertised beer canning equipment for sale on a brewing industry website and made an agreement with a brewery in British Columbia, Canada, to sell the equipment.

The victim reportedly made payments to Candelario totaling more than $45,000 but didn’t arrange for the equipment to be shipped to the Canadian brewer. The victim filed a report with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia who forwarded the report to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

Candelario’s arrest in February came weeks after he abruptly closed his brewpub in Carson City on a “temporary” basis, saying in a Jan. 29 Sierra Sun story it was just a small mix-up before he could get back on track.

That clearly wasn’t the case, and it wasn’t long before Truckee River Associates, the commercial real estate company that represents the historic Flying A property in downtown Truckee, cut ties with Candelario.

Since, Europe-based real estate company Engel & Völkers moved into the location, where it operates today.

Candelario turned himself in Tuesday; bail for the two warrants was set at $13,000.
