Man seriously injured in suspected hit and run

A 26-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was seriously injured and a 21-year-old San Francisco man was arrested following a suspected hit-and-run Saturday in Meyers.

Around 9:45 p.m. Saturday night, Roberto Luna was driving a 2011 BMW east on U.S. Highway 50 near Apache Avenue in Meyers when he allegedly struck Scott Murphy, who was walking east along Highway 50, according to a California Highway Patrol report. Luna was allegedly traveling 50 mph in a 40 mph zone. Luna did not stop following the incident and went to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, according to the report.

South Lake Tahoe firefighters responded to the scene and transported Murphy to Barton Memorial Hospital. He was later flown to Reno due to major injuries sustained in the incident, according to the report.



Douglas County’s Sheriff’s Office deputy’s subsequently located Luna’s black BMW in the parking garage at Hard Rock. Luna was located inside the casino and booked into Douglas County’s Stateline jail on suspicion of felony hit and run, according to the report.
