Wife faces trial for murder of former Forest Service Director

PLACERVILLE — Colleen Ann Harris faced her first day of trial Thursday morning at the El Dorado County Court House in Placerville for the alleged murder of her husband, former US Forest Service Director and South Lake Tahoe Resident Robert “Bob” Edward Harris.

This marks Colleen Harris’ second trial for murder in similar circumstances after she was acquitted in the murder of a previous husband nearly 30 years ago. In that case, Colleen Harris claimed amnesia and self-defense.

Colleen was taken into custody in January 2013 after she allegedly shot and killed her husband with a shotgun at their Placerville home.

The prosecution, led by El Dorado County Deputy District Attorney Joe Alexander, alleges that Colleen Harris killed Harris over an extramarital affair, according to a Sacramento Bee article. The couple had had marital issues, but Robert Harris had reunited with Colleen Harris after she suffered health issues.

Robert Harris worked for the US Forest Service in Lake Tahoe from 1988 to 1997.
