Crime log: Man held on suspicion of rape

A 19-year-old man was placed into custody Wednesday after authorities learned he allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

The alleged incident occurred sometime near Oct. 1 at the residence of the suspect, Jorge Garcia, at the 3000 block of Pioneer Trail, the officer said.

The girl’s stepfather contacted police and Garcia was placed into custody by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday at his Stateline work, police said.

Garcia is expected to be extradited to El Dorado County Jail.
