More than 100 CrossFit members from Northern California and Nevada will compete this weekend to find the “strongest” man and woman in the region. Fittest of the Sierras is a one-day, three-event CrossFit competition that will be held at South Tahoe CrossFit. The general public is welcome and encouraged to volunteer or watch the athletes endure a grueling day of competition. The event will begin at 8 a.m. and will continue until 5 p.m.

Proceeds from this event will benefit local scholarships and international humanitarian projects of The Genung Wunderlich Opportunity Foundation. GWOF strives support the less fortunate by providing the opportunities necessary to achieve self-sustainability. A bulk of the money raised will help fund the creation of a lunchroom for a school in Nicaragua.

The number of participants in this competition has nearly doubled from last year’s inaugural event.

“So far this is the largest CrossFit event in the Reno/Tahoe area,” said GWOF co-founder and South Tahoe CrossFit member Dusty Wunderlich.

This year’s contestants are made up of locals from the Reno/Tahoe area, Sacramento, Walnut Creek, Bishop and more.
