An original take on rock music is headed to Tahoe’s North Shore this weekend, as Southern California-based group The Higgs takes the Crystal Bay Club Casino Red Room on Saturday evening.

“Formerly The Higgs Boson, in 2012 the band changed its name to simply The Higgs and have never looked back.

“The Higgs are an original eclectic mix of powerful rock, psychedelia and electronic flavors,” states the band’s online biography.

The four-piece group consists of singer/songwriter and lead guitarist John Lovero, percussionist Garrett Morriss, bassist David Barsky and pianist Jesse August Jennings.

“Blending the sounds of Southern Rock with the vibe of Southern California, The Higgs blur musical boundaries weaving between blues, reggae, alt-rock, prog and jam rock into what can only be referred to as cosmic California rock,” states The Higgs’ Facebook biography.

The group’s latest album, “Fractalizations,” debuted in November 2014, but more is on the horizon.

“The Higgs are currently working on a new single, music video and continuing to bring Higgs music to the West Coast and beyond,” concludes the Facebook bio.

Catch The Higgs at Crystal Bay Casino on Saturday, May 13.

The free gig begins at 10 p.m. and is open to guests over the age of 21.

Crystal Bay Casino is located at 14 NV 28. The venue next welcomes rock group KONGOS on Thursday, May 18.
