Cyclist crashes into car

by Timothy Bowman

A bicyclist collided with a car Monday near Carrows Restaurant across from Long’s on U.S. Highway 50. No one was seriously hurt, police said.

Clarence Daniel, 61, of Bakersfield, Calif., was making a left turn off the highway into Carrows’ parking lot around 10 a.m. when his Chrysler sedan was struck broadside by a bicyclist.

Donald Teale, 48, of Modesto, Calif. was traveling in the westbound bike lane when he collided with the car.

“The driver was in the left turn lane,” said South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Al Ramirez. “Traffic stopped for him to make that turn. The bicycle hit the side of the vehicle as it went into Carrows’ parking lot.”

Rescue crews arrived and Teale was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital where he was listed in “satisfactory” condition Monday afternoon.

“The bicyclist suffered minor injuries to his shoulder,” Ramirez said. “The rest were bruises and scratches and things like that.”

No charges are expected to be filed in the case, Ramirez said.
